Reports: Chelsea intend to offer Reece James bumper new contract

Chelsea’s primary priority once a new owner is in place, according to reports, will be to offer Reece James a new and improved deal.

The 22-year-old was a star performer in the Premier League in 2012/13, scoring five goals and providing six assists from wing-back, and he also excelled in the Champions League.

James is one of a handful of Chelsea talents who have prospered under head coach Thomas Tuchel, and he has already signed a long-term deal with the club. Indeed, his current deal at Stamford Bridge continues until 2025.

However, the England international is not among the club’s top earners at the moment, and Real Madrid have been linked with an ambitious bid in recent days.

Giving James a new contract would not only ward off 13-time European Cup/Champions League champions Real, but it would also acknowledge his increased significance in the squad – which has advanced to crucial player level over the last 12 months.
