Robert Lewandowski scores first MLS brace as Chicago Fire fight back against Charlotte

Robert Lewandowski scored his first brace for Chicago Fire at Soldier Field as the Polish striker inspired his side to a comeback victory over Charlotte in his first appearance in front of the club’s home supporters.

A crowd of 32,183 watched the former Barcelona forward make his home debut in Chicago, according to Spanish newspaper Marca. Lewandowski responded with two impressive finishes to overturn an early deficit and give Chicago Fire a memorable win.

Charlotte took the lead in the 18th minute through Spanish forward Pep Biel. However, their advantage lasted only 93 seconds before Lewandowski restored parity with a precise low right-footed strike.

The effort was placed towards the near post, leaving the goalkeeper unable to keep it out.

Lewandowski completed his personal double after the interval when he converted a pass from Finland international Robin Lod. The Poland striker then beat the goalkeeper with an excellent finish from inside the penalty area to put Chicago Fire ahead.

The result marked a particularly impressive first outing in front of the Soldier Field crowd for Lewandowski, who had arrived among the major names attracting attention in the American league.

Griezmann provides assist but Orlando City lose

Antoine Griezmann supplied an assist but could not prevent Orlando City from losing 3-2 away to New York Red Bulls.

The former Atletico de Madrid forward failed to score during the match, although he created Orlando City’s second goal. His contribution was not enough to earn his side any points.

There was also late drama in Philadelphia, where Union overturned a two-goal deficit against Atlanta United during the final 20 minutes. Atlanta United had played with 10 men for more than an hour, but still appeared on course for victory until the hosts’ late recovery.

Milan Iloski began the comeback in the 73rd minute. Neil Pierre then equalised in the 96th minute before Ezequiel Aladoh completed the turnaround a minute later, scoring in the 97th minute.

CF Montreal also recovered from being two goals down at home to draw 2-2 with New England Revolution.

Carles Gil and Dor Turgeman gave the visitors a two-goal advantage during the first half. The Canadian side responded after the break, with Colombian defender Bryan Vera and Prince Owusu scoring to bring CF Montreal level.

The meeting between the leading sides in the Western Conference also ended in a draw. LAFC took the lead against Vancouver Whitecaps through Son Heung-min, but Thomas Muller converted a penalty in the 76th minute to secure a 1-1 result for Vancouver.
