Nottingham Forest manager Nuno Espirito Santo has confirmed that Taiwo Awoniyi suffered latest injury in Saturday’s Premier League clash with West Ham United and is hopeful it will not take him out for a longer period.
The Super Eagles striker opened the score sheet for Forest in their 2-0 win over Hammers at the City Ground.
He was replaced by Belgian international, Divock Origi few minutes after the hour mark after taking a knock from a challenge by West Ham defender.
Santos is hoping the assessment report will be favorable on the former Union Berlin’s forward who has been struggling with fitness this season.
“We have to assess him and see how he is. We all know he has been struggling for a long time, and hadn’t played much,” the manager told the club media.
“We have pushed him, and he’s done more than he should have. We hope it’s nothing serious.”
The 26-year-old recently returned to action after undergoing surgery for a groin injury that ruled him out of 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Cote d’Ivoire with Nigeria.
Awoniyi has scored six goals in 14 league appearances for the Tricky Trees this season.
