Turkish Super Lig club Trabzonspor has reached an agreement with English Premier League side Southampton for the transfer of Nigerian striker Paul Onuachu. Onuachu, who spent the 2023/2024 season on loan with Trabzonspor, showcased impressive form by scoring 17 goals and providing four assists in 25 games.

Trabzonspor’s leadership has consistently expressed their admiration for the Super Eagles striker and their intention to secure him permanently. The primary hurdle has been Onuachu’s valuation, which Southampton was initially reluctant to lower.

After returning to Southampton for preseason, Onuachu has continued to perform well, finding the back of the net frequently. According to Turkish outlet Yomra Sonhaber Gazette, Southampton has now reduced their asking price to €7 million, making Onuachu’s transfer to Trabzonspor a likely outcome. An official bid from Trabzonspor is expected in the coming days for the 30-year-old Nigerian.

In addition to their efforts to sign Onuachu, Trabzonspor is actively working in the transfer market to strengthen their attacking options. One potential target is former Manchester United forward Wout Weghorst. Coach Abdullah Avcı is determined to build a competitive squad capable of challenging Galatasaray and Fenerbahçe SK in the upcoming season.

Onuachu was also a key member of the Super Eagles team that won a silver medal at the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament in Ivory Coast earlier this year.
