Trezeguet scores first Al-Riyadh goal in six-goal thriller against Al Shabab
Egypt international Mahmoud Hassan Trezeguet scored his first goal for new club Al-Riyadh as they drew 3-3 with Al Shabab in the Roshn Saudi League on Tuesday.
Trezeguet opened the scoring in the 32nd minute after receiving the ball inside the penalty area. The forward created space before sending a powerful shot to the goalkeeper’s left and into the net.
He also provided an assist as Al-Riyadh claimed a point in a dramatic match in the third round of the 2026-27 Saudi professional league season.
Al-Riyadh had to play the final stages with 10 men after Kader Keita was sent off in the 61st minute. Despite being reduced to 10 players, they held on to share the points in a six-goal contest.
Speaking after the match, Trezeguet said he already felt comfortable in Saudi Arabia and described the country as his “second home”.
“From the first day, I have felt that I am in my second home. Everyone has welcomed me, and I am very happy in Saudi Arabia. The league is strong and one of the best leagues in the world,” he said.
Trezeguet added that the Roshn Saudi League should be regarded among the leading competitions in world football, rather than simply one of the strongest leagues in the Middle East. He based that assessment on his experience of playing in Turkey, Belgium and England.
Asked by Thamanya reporter Khaled Al-Arafa whether Al-Riyadh could maintain the same level of performance throughout the season, Trezeguet praised the club’s manager and the support provided by the board.
“The team has an excellent manager, and the club provides all the necessary resources to deliver the best possible level. We will take it step by step, and hopefully we will meet at the end of the season with Al-Riyadh in the position it deserves,” he said.
The result leaves Al-Riyadh 16th in the Roshn Saudi League with one point from three matches. They drew with Al Shabab on Tuesday, having previously lost 4-2 to Al Ettifaq and 4-0 to Al Nassr.
Trezeguet’s goal was his first for Al-Riyadh since joining the club and offered an early indication of his attacking influence, with the Egyptian contributing both a goal and an assist in his latest appearance.
Away from league competition, Al-Riyadh have reached the last 16 of the King’s Cup. They secured their place in the next round with a 2-0 victory over Al Zulfi.
