Valverde praises Real Madrid’s team spirit after El Clasico win

Federico Valverde said Real Madrid’s unity and resilience were central to their 2-1 victory over Barcelona in El Clasico, while he also praised Kylian Mbappe and Andriy Lunin for their decisive contributions.

The Uruguay midfielder said he was proud of his team-mates and highlighted the effort made by every player during the match against their Catalan rivals.

“The key was working as one team, knowing how to deal with difficult moments, keeping possession and finding a way through the opposition’s defence,” Valverde told Real Madrid’s television channel.

“We were very good, especially in the first half.”

Valverde was unable to complete the match after suffering physical problems. He explained that he had tried to continue after half-time despite feeling pain following one of the challenges during the game.

“If the team wins, I will sleep peacefully and happily,” he said.

The midfielder added that playing alongside his Real Madrid team-mates was a great honour, both on the pitch and in the dressing room.

Praise for Mbappe and Lunin

Valverde reserved particular praise for Mbappe, who scored both of Real Madrid’s goals in the clasico.

He said the France forward works hard and deserves to continue producing strong performances and scoring goals.

Valverde also singled out goalkeeper Lunin after the Ukraine international made a crucial save during the match.

“Words cannot describe what Lunin did today,” he said.

The midfielder said Lunin continues to work hard behind the scenes despite making relatively few appearances. He added that the goalkeeper does not complain and remains ready to help the team whenever he is given an opportunity.

Real Madrid’s victory extended their winning run to five matches, a sequence Valverde said had provided the side with an important lift.

However, he stressed that the team must continue working even harder if they are to maintain their positive results and compete for trophies.
