Nigeria’s senior women’s national team has been shortlisted for the women’s national team of the year ahead of this year’s CAF Awards.
The Super Falcons, under coach Randy Waldrum, returned to the women’s football tournament of the Olympics for the first time since 2008 ahead of African champions, South Africa.
The team bowed out in the group stage in gallant fashion facing powerhouses Brazil, Spain, and Japan.
The team remained the top-ranked women’s football team on the FIFA rankings since its introduction and maintained its position.
The nine-time African champions will jostle with four other national teams for the award.
Cameroon women’s U-20 team, Morocco women’s national team, and Zambia, which also made it to the Olympics, made the shortlist.
Reigning African champions, South Africa completes the list of five women’s football teams shortlisted for the award.
Morocco is hosting the CAF awards this month after staging the last edition.
