2026 World Cup Qualifier: Time and where to watch Rwanda vs Nigeria

By: Monsurah Olatunji

The Nigeria men’s national team are set to return to action this Friday in a crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Rwanda. This is a must-win game for Nigeria, as they seek to revive their faltering qualification campaign.

After missing out on the 2022 World Cup, Nigeria faces the possibility of missing back-to-back tournaments for the first time since their USA ’94 debut. Currently, Nigeria, the highest-ranked team in Group C, sits in a disappointing fifth place with only three draws and one loss from their opening four games.

After a turbulent managerial situation, which saw José Peseiro depart following the AFCON final and his successor Finidi George last just two games, the Super Eagles have been under the temporary guidance of Augustine Eguavoen for the AFCON qualifiers. With World Cup hopes on the line, they must secure a vital win against Rwanda to keep their dream of qualification alive.

Despite Nigeria’s superior history, which includes three AFCON titles and six World Cup appearances, their encounters with Rwanda have often been tightly contested. Rwanda won their first-ever match against Nigeria in the final group game of the AFCON qualifiers, defeating the Super Eagles 2-1 in Uyo. The two teams have met seven times in total, with Nigeria winning twice, Rwanda winning once, and four games ending in draws.

Interestingly, all three of Nigeria’s visits to Rwanda have ended in draws, with the only goal Nigeria has scored on Rwandan soil coming from Obafemi Martins in a 2005 World Cup qualifier.

A win for Rwanda would solidify their position at the top of Group C, while a loss could see them drop down the standings. For Nigeria, a victory is essential to improve their position and keep their World Cup hopes alive.

Match Details:

  • Date: Friday, 21st March 2025
  • Time: 5:00 PM Nigerian Time
  • Venue: Amahoro Stadium, Kigali, Rwanda

Where to Watch:
Fans in Nigeria can watch the match live on AfroSport TV, NFF TV, or select pay-TV channels in the country. Don’t miss the action as the Super Eagles aim to turn their fortunes around and secure a crucial three points.
