Maduka Okoye confirms successful surgery

By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde

Nigeria goalkeeper, Maduka Okoye has successfully undergone surgery to correct a broken ligament.

The Udinese save hands took to his X handle to announce the surgery which ruled him out of his side’s previous match against Monza.

“Hi guys,
Surgery is done ✅
Big thanks to Dr. Pigoli and his team!

“Played the last 2 months with a broken ligament in my hand, for now I’ll be supporting the team from the stands, recover and work hard for a comeback in top form!
See you soon,” Okoye posted on his X handle on Wednesday.

He last played for Udinese against Genoa and sat out last weekend’s clash with Monza.

He has played 14 league games for Udinese in Italian Serie A so far this season.

After years of not featuring for Super Eagles, the former Sparta Rotterdam goalie returned for the last 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Qualifiers against Benin Republic and Rwanda.

He was behind the sticks during Nigeria’s 2-1 loss to Rwanda in the last game of the Qualifiers at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo.
