NWFL Premiership: Ibom Angels coach admits team mistakes against Rivers Angels

After a 2-1 loss to his former team, Ibom Angels head coach, Edwin Okon admitted his players made some mistakes during the match.

Two own goals in the first half evened the scoreline before Ifeoma Ikenokwalu’s 78th minute separated both sides after 90 minutes.

Okon, who was the former coach of Super Falcons and Rivers Angels, had his reservations about the match.

“We thank God. It was not an easy journey. One thing I want to point out. You know I am very blunt. We don’t just suffer preparing the team for four or more months and one man will just spoil the efforts,” He said after the match.

“It is not encouraging. If this is how the league is going to be run, I don’t think it will go well. Must every team win at home? Building attack for the home team.

“When you attack as a team and you are frustrated, you make so many mistakes at that level. I agree they made mistakes.”

The Orange Ladies will return home to face Bayelsa Queens next week in Matchday Two, with corrections to be made by the technical crew.

“If I don’t play well at home, let me lose. If I don’t do well at home, let me lose. This is 70-30 home advantage.” He continued.

“I do tell my players, even at the last championship, if they don’t play well, lose well. Play well first and see how it goes. Let’s see how the next game goes.

“We are going back home to see where and where we need to touch at that level.”

The Uyo-based side returned to the NWFL Premiership immediately after relegation ahead of Osun Babes at the end of the Championship in Calabar, Cross Rivers State capital.

Their first aim is to maintain their league status this season before having title aspirations; the bigger picture for coach Okon, who has won titles with Rivers Angels.
