Gbenga Elegbeleye reaffirms commitment to growing NPFL to global standard

Gbenga Elegbeleye, Chairman of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Board, has reaffirmed his commitment to transforming the league into a globally recognized football competition.

Speaking on a sports radio show in Abeokuta, Ogun State, Elegbeleye expressed confidence that the NPFL is well on its way to meeting global standards, highlighting the league’s adherence to a structured and transparent schedule this season.

“We are on the verge of finishing the league; we began in August and will finish in May. This calendar aligns with global best practices, and we are pleased to have achieved this milestone,” Elegbeleye told listeners on Eagles7 Radio.

He emphasized the league’s focus on eliminating sharp practices, assuring fans and stakeholders that the current season will end positively. Elegbeleye reiterated that the NPFL’s progress will be built upon, with a firm stance against any form of malpractice.

“We have zero tolerance for sharp practices, and as you can see this season, we are progressing steadily. This is just the beginning, and we will continue working towards making the NPFL the best football league in Africa,” he added.

As of the latest standings, Remo Stars are leading the NPFL with 60 points from 32 matches, further highlighting the league’s growing competitiveness and professionalism.

Elegbeleye’s comments signal the league’s ongoing efforts to elevate its status and create a more organized, transparent, and competitive football environment in Nigeria.
