The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) is set to confirm a two-year contract extension for women national team head coach, Justin Madugu, following his historic triumph at the 2024 CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.

Madugu guided Super Falcons to their record-extending 10th continental title, coming from behind to defeat host nation Morocco in a dramatic final — a result that further solidified Nigeria’s dominance in African women’s football.

Speaking to BSN Sports on Friday, NFF General Secretary, Dr. Mohammed Sanusi, confirmed the decision, explaining that it followed comprehensive evaluations by both the Federation’s Technical Committee and Technical Department.

“Justin Madugu has been given a two-year contract by the NFF,” Sanusi told BSN Sports.

“This decision was reached after the Technical Committee and Technical Department completed their review processes. Despite interest from several high-profile coaches, they unanimously agreed that Madugu understands the team better than anyone else.”

While salary details were not disclosed, Madugu’s new deal places him in charge of leading the Super Falcons through the 2026 WAFCON, which will once again be hosted by Morocco.

The upcoming edition will be historic, marking the first-ever 16-team format of the competition following CAF’s recent expansion announcement.

Adding to his growing international recognition, Madugu was recently nominated for the 2025 Ballon d’Or Coach of the Year award, becoming the first African coach to achieve that feat — a testament to his tactical brilliance and impact on the global stage.
