Osun Babes, Pacesetter Queens Secure NWFL Premiership Spots for 2025/26 Season

By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde

Two South West clubs, Osun Babes and Pacesetter Queens, have secured places in the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership ahead of the 2025/26 season, Nigeriafootball.ng can confirm.

Osun Babes, who narrowly missed promotion at the end of the 2025 NWFL Championship, will return to the top flight after acquiring the Premiership slot of Imo Striker Queens. Although Imo Striker Queens had initially gained promotion from the same group as the Osogbo-based side, the Osun State Government has reportedly given approval for Osun Babes to take over the slot, paving the way for their comeback among Nigeria’s elite women’s clubs.

Similarly, Pacesetter Queens, a newly established team owned by the Oyo State Government, will make their debut in the Premiership after completing the acquisition of Benue Queens’ slot. The Ibadan-based side will automatically serve as the women’s team of Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC), ensuring that the Oyo outfit meets CAF’s club licensing regulations which require men’s teams to have an active women’s side in order to qualify for continental competitions.

With the latest development, the South West zone now boasts the highest representation in the NWFL Premiership with seven clubs — FC Robo Queens (Lagos), Dannaz Ladies (Lagos), Remo Stars Ladies (Ogun), Castmog Ladies (Ogun), Sunshine Queens (Ondo), Osun Babes (Osun), and Pacesetter Queens (Oyo) — underlining the region’s dominance and growing investment in women’s football across Nigeria.

The kickoff date and fixtures for the new season are expected to be announced during the NWFL Annual General Assembly (AGA) holding in Port Harcourt on October 29, 2025.
