Achraf Hakimi beat Victor Osimhen to win 2025 CAF Player of the Year award

Hakimi Crowned Morocco and Paris Saint-Germain star Achraf Hakimi has been named the 2025 CAF Player of the Year, capping off a remarkable season for the 27-year-old defender.

Hakimi clinched the prestigious award ahead of Nigeria’s Victor Osimhen (Galatasaray) and Egypt’s Mohamed Salah (Liverpool), ending Super Eagles forward Ademola Lookman’s reign as Africa’s best footballer. The Moroccan full-back had finished as runner-up in the last two editions before finally securing the top honour.

The recognition comes after an outstanding campaign in which Hakimi played a pivotal role in PSG’s treble-winning season—lifting the French Ligue 1, the French Cup, and the club’s first-ever UEFA Champions League title. His consistency, athleticism, and influence on both ends of the pitch made him one of the standout performers in European football.

Despite currently being sidelined with an injury, Hakimi was present at Monday’s awards ceremony, arriving with his foot heavily strapped as he received applause from teammates, rivals, and dignitaries across the continent.

His triumph marks another milestone in a brilliant career and reinforces his status as one of Africa’s most accomplished modern-day footballers.
