Nicky Butt Backs Victor Osimhen as Ideal Striker for Manchester United

Former player, Nicky Butt has tipped Victor Osimhen as the perfect striker to lead Manchester United’s attack, insisting the Nigerian forward has the qualities needed to thrive at the highest level.
Speaking to the Daily Mirror, Butt questioned the ability of Benjamin Sesko to consistently shoulder the responsibility of leading the line for the Red Devils, particularly in high-pressure competitions like the UEFA Champions League.
“I don’t think he can carry the club up front on his own, they’ll need another No.9,” Butt said, while acknowledging Sesko’s potential but stressing he is not yet the complete striker required at that level.
Butt urged United to avoid repeating past recruitment mistakes by investing in a proven forward, highlighting Osimhen as the ideal candidate.
“I think he’d be the one. He’s powerful, quick, can run in behind, strong, has a good touch, and can score different types of goals. He’s also good in the air,” he added.
The former midfielder also pointed to the challenges of competing across multiple competitions, noting that the demands of elite football require experienced and reliable goal scorers.
Butt further cautioned against spending heavily on unproven talents, referencing previous signings like Rasmus Hojlund, and suggested that while Sesko could develop into a top striker, he may not yet be ready to deliver consistently at the top level.
“I know Osimhen isn’t proven in the Premier League, but you look at his physicality and the way he plays football, he can definitely handle it,” Butt concluded.
Osimhen’s profile and proven goal-scoring record continue to attract attention across Europe, with his attributes seen as a strong fit for the demands of English football.
