Shooting Stars name Salisu Yusuf as new technical adviser ahead of NPFL and CAF Confederation Cup campaigns
Shooting Stars Sports Club have appointed experienced coach Salisu Yusuf as their new technical adviser, with the CAF A-licensed tactician taking charge of the Oluyole Warriors with immediate effect.
Yusuf succeeds Nurudeen Aweroro, who recently left the position. His appointment comes as Shooting Stars prepare for the challenges of the new season, with the coach expected to lead the Ibadan-based club in both the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) and the CAF Confederation Cup.
The club regard Yusuf’s arrival as an important step in their preparations for the campaigns ahead. Shooting Stars said his extensive knowledge of Nigerian football and record of developing homegrown players were among the factors behind the decision to bring him in.
Yusuf has more than 20 years of coaching experience, having started his managerial career at Nasarawa United in 2002. Since then, he has worked with several of Nigeria’s leading clubs, including Kano Pillars, Rangers International and Enyimba.
His most recent club appointment was with Coton Sport in Benin. The move to Shooting Stars gives Yusuf the opportunity to return to Nigerian club football and take responsibility for a side competing domestically and in continental competition.
Yusuf has also held a number of roles within the Nigeria national-team structure. He has served as an assistant coach with the Super Eagles, while also taking charge of the Super Eagles B and Nigeria U-23 teams.
One of the notable achievements of his international coaching career came in 2018, when he guided the home-based Super Eagles to the final of the African Nations Championship (CHAN) in Morocco.
The new technical adviser will now begin working with the Shooting Stars squad as the club continue their build-up to the new season. His immediate task will be to prepare the Oluyole Warriors for the demands of the NPFL and the CAF Confederation Cup, while drawing on his experience of managing clubs and national teams in Nigeria.
Shooting Stars have placed their confidence in Yusuf’s understanding of the domestic game and his ability to work with Nigerian talent. His arrival follows the departure of Aweroro and marks the beginning of a new phase for the club as they plan for the season ahead.
