Nigerian defender Oluwatobi Olalere joins Gibraltar’s Europa FC

Nigerian centre-back Oluwatobi Olalere has completed a move to Gibraltar club Europa FC after leaving Danish side Aarhus Fremad.

Olalere confirmed the transfer in a personal statement, saying he was excited by the opportunity to continue his career in Gibraltar. The defender described the move as a new challenge and the beginning of another chapter after his time in Denmark.

“Leaving Aarhus Fremad and Denmark comes with a lot of memories, lessons, challenges and growth that I will always carry with me,” he wrote. “I’m grateful for the people and experiences that shaped me during my time there. Now, it’s time for a new challenge.”

The transfer continues a career that has taken Olalere from the Nigerian Professional Football League to European football. He previously played for Remo Stars before moving to Aarhus Fremad, where he gained experience of a different style of play and the physical demands associated with Scandinavian football.

That period in Denmark is expected to help Olalere as he adjusts to the Gibraltar Football League and to the distinctive setting of club football on the Rock. His arrival gives Europa FC another option in defence as the club prepares for the season ahead.

Europa FC are one of Gibraltar’s established clubs and regularly compete in domestic football, while also taking part in European qualifying campaigns on occasion. The club has a record of recruiting overseas players, and Olalere’s move represents another stage in a career shaped by development and a readiness to adapt to new surroundings.

The defender used his announcement to thank those who had supported him and to underline his determination to make an immediate contribution at his new club.

“I’m grateful to God for bringing me this far, and I’m excited for everything this next chapter has in store. The journey continues. The work continues. The dream continues. Europa FC, let’s get to work.”

Olalere’s transfer adds to the growing number of Nigerian players pursuing opportunities in some of Europe’s smaller leagues. Those competitions can offer regular first-team football, valuable experience and a route towards further progression.

His immediate priorities will be settling into life in Gibraltar, forming relationships with his new team-mates and helping Europa FC achieve their objectives for the coming season. The move also gives him the chance to build on the lessons gained during his spell with Aarhus Fremad.

Europa FC have not publicly confirmed the length of Olalere’s contract. However, the defender’s statement indicated that he is ready to begin work with the club straight away.

Supporters of Remo Stars and Aarhus Fremad are expected to retain an interest in his progress as he starts the latest phase of his professional career with Europa FC.
