Arsenal sign England defender Ezri Konsa from Aston Villa on long-term deal

Arsenal have completed the signing of England international Ezri Konsa from Aston Villa on a long-term contract.

The 28-year-old defender joins after seven seasons with Aston Villa, where he made more than 200 Premier League appearances for the club in all competitions. Arsenal confirmed the deal on their official website during the summer transfer window.

Konsa is capable of playing at centre-back or right-back, and his consistent performances at Villa helped establish him as one of the Premier League’s most dependable defenders. His versatility is expected to provide Arsenal with additional defensive options as they pursue major honours.

Arsenal sporting director Andrea Berta said: “We are delighted to complete the signing of Ezri Konsa. He is a defender of outstanding quality, and his physical ability, composure and tactical intelligence have made him one of the most consistent performers in the Premier League. His ability to play at centre-back and right-back will give our team important flexibility, while maintaining the high defensive standards that are a fundamental part of our pursuit of major trophies.”

Berta added: “We welcome a player with proven experience in the Premier League and at international level, as well as strong leadership qualities, who will be able to adapt seamlessly to our style of play. Equally importantly, we are welcoming a player with the character and mentality required to make an immediate impact at our club.”

Konsa will wear the number 15 shirt at Arsenal and will join his new team-mates in London immediately.

The defender began his professional career with Charlton Athletic, making his first-team debut in 2016. He quickly developed a reputation as one of the club’s most promising young defenders.

After spending two seasons with Charlton Athletic’s first team, Konsa moved to Brentford in 2018. His performances during the 2018-19 season further enhanced his reputation and earned him the opportunity to move into the Premier League with Aston Villa in 2019.

During his time at Villa, Konsa became an important part of the club’s defence. His steady displays and ability to operate in more than one defensive position helped him build a strong standing in the top flight.

At international level, Konsa represented England at under-20 and under-21 level before making his senior debut in 2023. Since then, he has become an established member of England’s squad and represented his country at Euro 2024 and the 2026 World Cup.

The move gives Arsenal an experienced Premier League defender with international pedigree, while Villa lose a player who had spent seven seasons at the club. Konsa’s arrival also strengthens Arsenal’s options across the back line, with his experience at both centre-back and right-back offering tactical flexibility.
