Alhassan Yusuf wins MLS Player of the Week award after New England Revolution hat-trick

Alhassan Yusuf has been named Major League Soccer Player of the Week after scoring a hat-trick in New England Revolution’s 3-0 victory over D.C. United.

The Super Eagles midfielder produced a decisive display on Wednesday as New England Revolution ended a three-match winless run and strengthened their position in the Eastern Conference standings.

Yusuf put Marko Mitrovic’s side in control before half-time, scoring twice during the opening 45 minutes. His goals gave New England Revolution a commanding advantage and left D.C. United facing a difficult task after the break.

The Nigeria international completed his hat-trick six minutes after the hour mark, rounding off an outstanding individual performance and confirming a convincing away win for the Revolution.

The award recognises Yusuf’s contribution to a result that lifted New England Revolution to fourth place in the Eastern Conference. The club have collected 33 points from 20 matches this season.

Yusuf’s three-goal performance also took his league tally to five goals and two assists in 20 appearances for New England Revolution. The midfielder’s latest contribution came at an important stage of the campaign, with the victory ending the Revs’ run of three matches without a win.

New England Revolution will now attempt to build on the result when they host New York City FC at Gillette Stadium, Foxborough, on Sunday.

Yusuf’s recognition as MLS Player of the Week follows a match in which he influenced the contest from the first half and maintained his impact after the interval. His opening two goals established the platform for New England Revolution’s emphatic success, before his third completed the scoring six minutes after the hour.

The victory leaves the Revs fourth in the Eastern Conference table on 33 points after 20 league matches. Their next fixture against New York City FC will provide an opportunity to extend the momentum created by the win over D.C. United.

Yusuf has now contributed five league goals and two assists across his 20 appearances for the club this season. His hat-trick was his latest and most productive showing, helping New England Revolution secure maximum points while also bringing an end to their three-game winless sequence.

The midfielder’s performance was particularly significant for Marko Mitrovic’s team because it combined early attacking impact with a decisive finish to the match. After scoring twice before the interval, Yusuf struck again six minutes after the hour mark to complete the first hat-trick of the game and seal the 3-0 scoreline.

New England Revolution’s fourth-place position in the Eastern Conference means they go into Sunday’s home match with 33 points from 20 games. They will face New York City FC at Gillette Stadium, Foxborough, as they look to follow up their midweek success.
