Chidera Ejuke scores first Sevilla goal of season in 3-1 win

Nigeria international winger Chidera Ejuke opened his La Liga goal account for the season as Sevilla secured a 3-1 victory over Athletic Club, according to OwnGoalNigeria.com.
The goal marked a significant change in fortunes for Ejuke, who had appeared to be outside Sevilla’s plans before the campaign began. He was left out of the club’s pre-season matches after being considered surplus to requirements, while Sevilla continued to explore opportunities for his departure.
However, the winger offered a reminder of his ability with a composed finish that demonstrated why he could still have a role to play at the club.
Ejuke collected possession close to the centre circle and carried the ball forward before completing the move with a delicate dink over the goalkeeper. The finish gave Sevilla an important contribution from a player whose immediate future had appeared uncertain.
His strike also matched the total he managed throughout the whole of last season. Ejuke scored only once in all the matches he played during that campaign, a poor return that contributed to him losing his place in the senior Nigeria national team.
The latest goal therefore represents more than just an addition to Sevilla’s score. It gives Ejuke an opportunity to rebuild his standing within the club at a time when his future remains unresolved.
Although Sevilla are still looking for a suitable market opportunity that would allow him to leave, his performance against Athletic Club suggested he may not be entirely out of consideration. The quality of the finish and the way he created the chance for himself showed that he remains capable of influencing matches.
Ejuke’s exclusion from pre-season had indicated that Sevilla were prepared to move on from the Nigeria international. His appearance in the side and subsequent goal, however, provide evidence that the winger can still make an impact if given the opportunity.
The forward will now hope the goal can lead to a more regular role and help him recover the form that previously earned him international recognition. For Sevilla, it was another positive sign in a 3-1 win, while for Ejuke it offered a timely response to the doubts surrounding his position at the club.
His first goal of the season has brought his tally level with last season’s total, but it could prove more valuable if it helps establish him again in the plans of the Sevilla coaching staff.
