Victor Osimhen matches Wesley Sneijder’s rare Galatasaray feat against Fenerbahce

Victor Osimhen became only the second Galatasaray player to score against a Fenerbahce team managed by Ismail Kartal in the Super Lig after his two goals secured a 2-1 derby victory on Monday night.

The Super Eagles striker struck twice before half-time at Rams Park, giving Galatasaray a commanding lead in front of their home supporters.

Osimhen opened the scoring after receiving a precise pass from Barıs Yılmaz. The former Napoli forward kept his composure to send the ball into the bottom corner.

He added a second goal late in the first half, rising to head home a cross from Galatasaray defender Davinson Sanchez.

Fenerbahce responded after the interval when Irfan Kahveci produced an acrobatic scissor kick to reduce the deficit. Galatasaray, however, defended their advantage to claim all three points against their city rivals.

Opta Can recorded Osimhen’s performance as only the second instance of a Galatasaray player scoring against a Fenerbahce side managed by Kartal in the Super Lig.

The only previous player to achieve the feat was Wesley Sneijder, who scored twice in October 2014.

Osimhen’s brace took his season total to nine goals and three assists in nine appearances across all competitions. The Nigerian striker will now look to maintain his strong run of form as Galatasaray continue their campaign.
