Lennart Karl capitalises on Robin Le Normand mistake to put Bayern Munich ahead against Atletico de Madrid

Bayern Munich took a 1-0 lead against Atletico de Madrid after a costly defensive error by Robin Le Normand in their Champions League league-phase meeting at the Metropolitano.
The decisive moment came in the 54th minute, shortly after the restart. Le Normand received the ball inside Atletico’s penalty area but hesitated over whether to pass or clear it, allowing the young Lennart Karl to apply pressure and win possession.
Karl then finished into the net, taking advantage of an unexpected mistake from the Spanish side’s defence and giving Bayern the lead.
Atletico manager Diego Simeone responded immediately, making three substitutions in an attempt to change the course of the match. Le Normand was one of those withdrawn after his error, with Koke replacing him.
Alexander Sørloth and Alex Baena also came off, while Ademola Lookman and Lee Kang-in were introduced.
Both teams began the match looking to improve their positions in the Champions League league-phase table. Bayern Munich were 15th before kick-off with five points from their opening three matches.
Atletico de Madrid were 18th, just one point behind Bayern.
