NPFL: Daniel Ogunmodede hails Remo Stars’ ‘brilliant response’ with Enyimba win

By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde
Remo Stars head coach Daniel Ogunmodede has lauded his side’s brilliant response following a 1-0 win over former champions Enyimba in Wednesday’s Nigeria Premier Football league encounter.
The Sky Blue Stars had suffered their first defeat against leaders Bendel Insurance following a 3-0 thrashing in Benin but they bounced back to winning ways with a home win over the People’s Elephants in Ikenne.
Samuel Anakwe’s 17 seconds goal was enough to hand the Ikenne-Remo-based side the maximum points and the gaffer could not hide his excitement for his men’s clinical triumph amidst fatique against Enyimba.
“It was a brilliant reaction from us after our loss in Benin City. We needed something to actually bounce back and that’s a good tonic for us,” Ogunmodede told journalists after the match.
” Reacting in that manner is commendable for the boys. Maybe I wouldn’t have a choice than to rest some players because fatigue would definitely set in. Playing five matches in two weeks is terrible. It’s not good for the health of the players.
“As a coach, this is part of the things that I need to manage well. Their lives are also important after football. I don’t have a choice than to rest some of them. Sometimes as much as the result is important, their health is also important. The good thing is that we have a depth that we are sure that whoever is playing actually performs above average.”
The Sky Blue Stars despite the win remain second in Group A, three points behind Bendel Insurance, the only team
with a perfect start to the season and the only side that has defeated Remo Stars this season.
They will next face another champions Akwa United in Uyo and Ogunmodede reveals his side’s plan to upset their hosts.
“I need to reiterate again that we go to every match with the mentality to win. This is an abridged league. Anything is possible. Bendel Insurance won in Maiduguri. Impossible is nothing,” he insists.
“We want to go to every match to win. Don’t forget that this is football. Anything could be the outcome. We are prepared to go there to get the needed result.”
Remo Stars will hope to pick a continental spot after qualifying for the CAF Confederation Cup for the first time last season with a third-place finish.
