Gabonese referee Moukagni appointed for San Pedro v Rivers United

Gabonese referee Cregue Flaury Moukagni will take charge of the CAF Champions League first preliminary-round first-leg meeting between San Pedro and Rivers United on Saturday.

The appointment places Moukagni at the centre of the opening contest between the Ivorian club and the Nigerian side, with a full team of officials from Gabon supporting him for the fixture.

Amos Abeigne Ndong has been selected as the first assistant referee, while Junior Assoughe will serve as the second assistant referee. Pierre Ghislain Atcho, also from Gabon, has been named as the fourth official.

The match commissioner will be Innocent Atindehou of the Benin Republic. Algeria’s Mohamed Lamine Benaissa has been appointed referee assessor for the encounter.

San Pedro will host the first leg at the Laurent Pokou Stadium in San Pedro. Kick-off is scheduled for 16:00 local time, equivalent to 17:00 Nigerian time.

Rivers United will then stage the return fixture at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo next Sunday. The two matches will determine which side makes progress from the first preliminary round of the CAF Champions League.

The choice of Moukagni completes the officiating arrangements for Saturday’s meeting, with the other match officials also assigned clearly defined roles. Ndong and Assoughe will operate on the touchlines as the assistant referees, Atcho will oversee duties as fourth official, and Atindehou will act as match commissioner.

The Rivers United squad will therefore begin its continental campaign away from home before returning to Nigeria for the second leg. Their first assignment comes at the Laurent Pokou Stadium, where San Pedro will have home advantage.

The Nigerian club’s second match against San Pedro will be played at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo next Sunday, providing Rivers United with the opportunity to complete the tie on home soil.

Rivers United are also expected to strengthen their squad for their CAF Champions League campaign, with the club having indicated that it will recruit quality foreign players for the competition.

The appointment was reported by Adeboye Amosu, senior content writer and an NPFL expert covering the Super Eagles and Chelsea, among other football matters.
