Olympiacos rally around Ayoub El Kaabi after serious injury in Volos clash

Olympiacos have offered their full support to forward Ayoub El Kaabi after the Morocco international suffered a serious-looking leg injury during their Greek Super League match against Volos on Saturday evening.

El Kaabi was injured shortly before half-time after racing towards the ball and reaching it just before Volos goalkeeper Marios Siampanis. The goalkeeper then fell heavily onto the Olympiacos striker’s leg, which twisted violently in the collision.

The 31-year-old immediately went down in distress, prompting a concerned reaction from both sets of players and supporters. Medical staff came on to treat him before he was carried from the pitch on a stretcher.

El Kaabi received applause from the crowd as he left the field, with Armando Gonzalez replacing him. No details about the precise nature or severity of the injury have yet been given.

The incident resulted in a penalty for Olympiacos. Jota Silva converted from the spot and celebrated emotionally, dedicating the goal to El Kaabi in a gesture that reflected the impact of the injury on the team.

El Kaabi was taken directly to hospital after leaving the pitch, where he was due to undergo medical examinations to establish the extent of the damage.

Olympiacos later published a message of encouragement to the forward through their official social media accounts.
