FIFA U20 World Cup: Nigeria vs Brazil Preview: Flying Eagles eye Selecao scalp

By Monsurah Olatunji
Nigeria U20 men’s team will today face Brazil in their last group match of the ongoing FIFA U-20 World Cup on Saturday.
The Flying Eagles had already qualified for the knockout phase of the competition, having recorded victories in their opening two matches.
However, a defeat to Brazil and a win for Italy in the other game will mean all three teams will be tied on six points and the Nigerians can then finish as the best loser from the group.
While Nigeria scored four goals and conceded just one in their previous two games, their opponent Brazil scored eight goals and conceded thrice.
On the other hand, Italy scored three goals and conceded four but they are the favorite to win with a big margin against the Dominican Republic.
If this happens, both Brazil and Italy will be the two best from the group on goal difference.
Therefore, Nigeria must avoid defeat to finish top of the group and gallantly cruise to the next round.
The two teams will now meet for the seventh time, as Brazil won four of the games, while the other two ended in ties.
Brazil prevailed 4-2 in their most recent encounter in the 2015 World Cup, topping their group.
Nigeria has however advanced from the group stage in 10 of their past 12 appearances in the U-20 World Cup, scoring at least twice in each of their last four games.
Flying Eagles will face the five-time winners at the Estadio Único Diego Armando Maradona, La Plata.
