NPFL: Enyimba overcome Bendel Insurance to reach mid-table

By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde

Two-time African champions, Enyimba FC recorded a 2-1 win over Bendel Insurance in a rescheduled Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) on Wednesday.

With outstanding games due to their participation in the CAF Champions League and African Football League (AFL), the People’s Elephant dropped to an unenviable position on the log but are now making steady progress on the league table.

After a goalless draw in the first half, Joseph Atule broke the deadlock for Finidi George’s side in the 71st minute.

Four minutes later, the visitors responded with the equaliser as Ismael Seriki converted a long ball from goalkeeper, Amas Obasogie.

With nine minutes to the end of the encounter, Chijioke Mbaoma scored the winning goal for the Aba-based side.

The win pushed Enyimba to the eighth position on the log with 13 points after eight games.

Bendel Insurance is two places ahead of Enyimba with 13 points after nine games.

The People’s Elephants have an outstanding match against Remo Stars.

The team will face Heartland FC, Remo Stars, and Sunshine Stars in their next three league games.
