Aaron Bibout ready to challenge Rafiu Durosinmi for Genk starting place

Racing Genk forward Aaron Bibout says he has the ability to compete with Rafiu Durosinmi for a regular starting role after making an impact from the bench this season.
Durosinmi has quickly established himself as Genk’s first-choice striker since joining from Italian club Pisa in the summer. The Nigeria international has scored six goals in nine appearances in the Jupiler Pro League, starting every match in which he has played.
Bibout, by contrast, is yet to start a Belgian top-flight game during the 2026-27 season. The 22-year-old has nevertheless remained an important part of the squad, scoring three goals in nine appearances despite playing only 172 minutes.
His latest goal proved decisive as Genk beat Standard Liege 2-1 last weekend. Bibout came on as a substitute and scored the winning goal in a hard-fought match.
The Cameroon forward spent about 16 minutes on the pitch alongside Durosinmi, suggesting the pair could potentially operate together in attack.
“Rafiu and I can certainly play together. He is a very strong striker with many qualities,” Bibout said after the victory over Standard Liege, according to HBVL.
Bibout also made clear that he is not satisfied with a substitute’s role and intends to push for more opportunities.
“I don’t like sitting on the bench a lot, but I am going to fight for my place.
“It is up to the coach to make the decision and up to me to step up when he needs me.”
Durosinmi joined Racing Genk from Pisa in July 2026 for a €10.5 million fee, becoming the most expensive signing in the Belgian club’s history.
Bibout’s three goals from limited playing time have strengthened his case for greater involvement, while his performance against Standard Liege showed he can make an immediate contribution when called upon. The forward now faces competition from Durosinmi for a starting position, but believes their styles and qualities would allow them to share the attack.
