Super Eagles striker Victor Boniface, who initially made Nigeria’s AFCON team before getting ruled out due to an injury, trolled Ghana following their exit from the tournament.
After losing their opening match against Cape Verde and drawing brilliantly 2-2 with Egypt, the Black Stars drew 2-2 with Mozambique in their final group game and were unable to advance to the round of 16.
Two well-taken penalties gave Ghana a comfortable 2-0 lead in the 70th minute. However, the gods of the 2023 AFCON had other plans.
As the clock ticked towards the 90-minute mark, they conceded a penalty from Geny Catamo. Minutes later, Ghana’s goalkeeper, Richard Ofori, inexplicably touched a ball that was going out for a goal kick, resulting in a corner for Mozambique at the death which they scored from through Reinildo Mandava to equalize.
With two points and negative goal difference, Ghana is placed in third position leading to their second consecutive elimination from an AFCON competition in the group stages.
When the referee blew the final whistle, Super Eagles fans got to work. They unleashed every meme in their arsenal while Ghana fans were still coming to terms with the result.
Boniface led the bant with a photo of a woman carrying “Ghana must go” bags to imply Ghana should pack their bags and go home after the humiliation.
He captioned the post; “Don’t say anything, just retweet.”
He then deleted the post and posted another picture, this time it’s pictures of popular Nigerian comedian Sabinus cooking which implies “it is time to bant.”
