Ikenna Owusu joins 1. FC Bitterfeld-Wolfen on free transfer

Netherlands-Nigeria midfielder Ikenna Owusu has joined 1. FC Bitterfeld-Wolfen from FCM Schwerin II on a free transfer.

The 21-year-old defensive midfielder completed the move on 21 August 2026, beginning a new chapter with the German club in the Verbandsliga Sachsen-Anhalt.

Owusu becomes part of Bitterfeld-Wolfen’s midfield options after spending the previous season with FCM Schwerin II. He joined the Schwerin-based side on 1 September 2025, also on a free transfer, before switching clubs for the second time in his senior career.

The midfielder is listed at 1.85m and is primarily used in a defensive midfield role. His Dutch and Nigerian nationality links give him eligibility for both countries, although no international career details are attached to the move.

Owusu’s transfer arrives at the start of the 2026-27 campaign. His previous club is listed in the transfer record as FCM Schwerin II, while his new side compete in Germany’s Verbandsliga Sachsen-Anhalt.

Bitterfeld-Wolfen have secured the player without a transfer fee, with the deal recorded as a free transfer. The agreement was completed on 21 August, making Owusu available as part of the squad for the season ahead.

The move follows a campaign in which Owusu was registered with FCM Schwerin II. His current performance record shows no appearances, goals or assists across the two possible matches listed for the 2026-27 season, placing the transfer at the beginning of his involvement with Bitterfeld-Wolfen rather than after an extended run of games for his former club.

Owusu’s arrival also represents a move between German clubs, keeping the midfielder in the country’s domestic football system. Bitterfeld-Wolfen are now the second named club in his recorded playing history, following his spell with FCM Schwerin II.

The transfer gives the 21-year-old a new club and a fresh setting in which to continue his career as a defensive midfielder. Bitterfeld-Wolfen completed the signing of Ikenna Owusu from FCM Schwerin II as a free agent on 21 August 2026.
