Besiktas boosted by Wilfred Ndidi return before Europa League qualifier

Besiktas have been handed a significant boost before their UEFA Europa League third qualifying round tie against Hradec Kralove, with Nigeria captain Wilfred Ndidi returning to training.
The Turkish club confirmed the midfielder’s comeback by posting photographs from their latest session on social media. Ndidi was shown working alongside his team-mates as Vincenzo Italiano’s squad stepped up preparations for the important European fixture.
Ndidi missed both legs of Besiktas’s second qualifying round tie against Danish club FC Midtjylland after suffering an ankle ligament injury shortly before the contest. Despite his absence, Besiktas progressed comfortably, securing a 3-0 aggregate win to reach the next stage of the competition.
His return provides Italiano with the potential availability of one of the club’s most experienced midfielders for another demanding European assignment. Ndidi has become an important presence in the centre of the midfield since joining the Istanbul-based club last summer, with his leadership, defensive discipline and work rate making him a key part of the side.
The Nigeria international also made an impact in attack during his first season with the Black Eagles. He scored two goals and supplied one assist in 31 league appearances.
Besiktas will now hope Ndidi can rebuild his match fitness quickly and put himself in contention for the meeting with Hradec Kralove. The club are continuing their pursuit of a place in the UEFA Europa League group stage, with the tie approaching and preparations intensifying.
Ndidi’s injury had kept him out of the previous qualifying round, but his return to full training means he is once again able to work towards involvement in the next European match. His availability would add further experience and defensive strength to a Besiktas midfield preparing for a decisive test.
The 28-year-old joined Besiktas last summer and has since established himself as one of the team’s influential players. His contribution has extended beyond his defensive duties, with his goals and assist in league competition underlining his ability to contribute in the final third as well.
The Turkish side’s successful passage past FC Midtjylland has set up the third qualifying round clash with Hradec Kralove. For Ndidi, the immediate objective will be to complete his recovery, regain full sharpness and convince Italiano that he is ready to return to competitive action.
Besiktas will be encouraged by the sight of their captain back on the training pitch as they prepare for the next step in their UEFA Europa League campaign.
