Chelle hails Flying Eagles after emphatic win over Togo at WAFU B U-20 Championship

Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle has praised Nigeria’s Flying Eagles for an impressive 3-0 victory over Togo that sealed their place in the WAFU B U-20 Championship semi-finals in Yamoussoukro.

Abdu Maikaba’s team recorded their second win in Group B on Thursday, moving clear at the top of the standings with a perfect six points from two matches.

Muiz Adeleke was the standout performer, scoring twice, while Abdoulaye Agbeloye added a third as the Flying Eagles overpowered the Sparrow Hawks in their second group outing.

Chelle impressed by second-half transformation

Chelle, who travelled to Yamoussoukro to lend support to the U-20 side, highlighted Nigeria’s response after a challenging first 45 minutes.

“The first half was difficult for Nigeria because Togo have a good team, who started to play with the ball and it was difficult for us,” he said after the match.

The Mali-born coach underlined the tactical shift made during the interval, crediting Maikaba and his players for a more aggressive approach after the restart.

“In the second half, the coach asked the boys to make high pressure on the team, they did. They played well in the second half, they put a lot of pressure on Togo, got the ball high on the pitch, got a lot of chances to score goals and they did.

“I was happy with what I saw in the second half.”

Group leaders set up decisive meeting with Burkina Faso

The result leaves the Flying Eagles in control of Group B with six points from their opening two fixtures, guaranteeing their progression to the last four.

Burkina Faso, who sit second in the group on four points, will be Nigeria’s final group opponents.

Both teams are scheduled to meet in Yamoussoukro on Saturday, with the match set to decide who finishes as Group B winners at the regional U-20 tournament.
