Eintracht Frankfurt sign Nigeria midfielder Raphael Onyedika on six-year deal

Eintracht Frankfurt have confirmed the signing of Nigeria international Raphael Onyedika from Club Brugge on a contract running until 30 June 2031.

The midfielder’s move brings his four-year spell with the Belgian Pro League side to an end and sees Eintracht Frankfurt recruit another highly rated Nigeria midfielder, 34 years after the club signed Austin Jay-Jay Okocha.

Onyedika’s arrival was announced by Eintracht Frankfurt on their official website. He has been given the number 25 shirt at the Bundesliga club.

The 24-year-old joined Club Brugge from FC Midtjylland in 2022 and made 183 appearances for the Belgian side. He scored nine goals and supplied six assists during his time at the club.

Onyedika was part of the Club Brugge team that won two Belgian league titles, the Belgian Cup and the Supercup. He has also established himself at international level, earning 26 caps for Nigeria and scoring three goals.

His transfer continues a notable link between Eintracht Frankfurt and Nigeria midfielders, following the arrival of Okocha more than three decades ago.

Okocha became a fan favourite during his time in Germany in the early 1990s, with his technical ability and individual skill making him one of the most admired players at the club.

His most famous moment in an Eintracht Frankfurt shirt came against Karlsruher, when he scored a memorable solo goal against goalkeeper Oliver Kahn. The strike was voted Goal of the Year in 1993 and remains one of the best-known moments in the club’s history.

Okocha made 116 appearances for Eintracht Frankfurt, scoring 25 goals and creating 18 assists. His performances helped establish his status as a club legend.

Onyedika began his football development at FC Ebedei before moving to Europe and later joining Midtjylland. His transfer to Club Brugge in 2022 marked the start of a successful period in Belgium, where he became a regular contributor and collected domestic honours.

He now begins a new chapter in the Bundesliga with Eintracht Frankfurt, who have secured his services through to the end of June 2031.

The move gives the German club a Nigeria international with extensive experience in Belgian football and links the current squad to one of the most memorable Nigerian players in Eintracht Frankfurt’s history.
