Everton sign Arsenal midfielder Christian Nørgaard on two-year deal

Everton have officially signed Arsenal midfielder Christian Nørgaard, with the club confirming the Denmark international has joined after just one season with the Gunners. The financial terms of the transfer were not disclosed.

Nørgaard has agreed a two-year contract with the Toffees that will run until the summer of 2028. English media reports have estimated the fee at about £7m.

The 32-year-old defensive midfielder joins Everton after arriving at Arsenal from Brentford in the summer of 2025. Arsenal paid an initial £10m for the player, with the deal potentially rising to £15m through performance-related bonuses.

Nørgaard signed a two-year contract with Arsenal at the time, including an option for a further year. However, his stay at the north London club lasted only one season before his move to Everton was completed.

He made 20 appearances in all competitions during his sole campaign with Arsenal but was unable to establish himself as a regular starter in Mikel Arteta’s side. Despite that limited role, Nørgaard ended the season as part of the squad that won the Premier League title.

The midfielder had previously built his reputation at Brentford, where he spent several seasons and made 196 appearances. He helped the club secure promotion to the Premier League, later wore the captain’s armband and became one of Brentford’s most important players.

Nørgaard has also captained Denmark on several occasions and has earned 41 international caps. His experience in the Premier League and leadership qualities will now form part of Everton’s midfield options.

The transfer brings an end to his brief spell at Arsenal and returns him to a more prominent role after he was unable to secure a consistent place in Arteta’s starting line-up. It also represents a move for Everton to strengthen their squad with an experienced player who has already played a significant part in a Premier League promotion campaign and competed at the top level with Arsenal.

Everton’s announcement confirmed the completion of the deal but did not reveal the transfer fee. Reports in England suggest the final figure is around £7m, while Nørgaard’s contract at Goodison Park will keep him at the club through to the end of the 2027-28 season.
