Benfica sign Nigeria defender Oluwatosin Demehin from Galatasaray

Portuguese champions Benfica have completed the signing of 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations-winning centre-back Oluwatosin Demehin from Galatasaray.

The Nigeria international has agreed a contract with Benfica until 2029, with the club confirming the move on their official website.

Demehin joins after two seasons in Turkey, where she became an important part of Galatasaray’s defensive options. Her transfer marks the latest stage of a European career that began in France and now continues in Portugal.

The defender started her senior club career in Nigeria before moving to Stade de Reims in France. She later joined Galatasaray in 2024, establishing herself during her time with the Turkish club before making the switch to Benfica.

Her arrival gives Benfica another experienced defensive option at both club and international level. The Portuguese champions have secured a player with experience of European football as well as major tournaments with Nigeria.

Demehin is an established member of the Super Falcons and has represented her country at several significant international competitions.

She was included in Nigeria’s squad for the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup and also featured at the 2024 Olympic Games. She was part of the Nigerian team that won the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations and also played prominently for Nigeria at the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.

The move to Benfica represents a new chapter for Demehin after her period with Galatasaray. She will now continue her development in Portugal while competing for a club that has won the domestic title.

Her defensive experience is expected to strengthen Benfica’s squad as the club welcomes a centre-back who has already played at international tournaments and in more than one European league.

Demehin’s career has taken her from Nigeria to France, then Turkey and now Portugal. The long-term agreement, which runs until 2029, underlines Benfica’s commitment to the Nigeria international as she begins her time with the Portuguese champions.
