FIFA’s vision for global football: A spectacle for all, says Fernando Fernandes
Reaffirming the visionary remarks made by FIFA President Gianni Infantino at the CAF Congress in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia last October, FIFA’s commitment to making club football a global phenomenon was further echoed by Fernando Fernandes.

Speaking about the upcoming 2025 FIFA tournament, Fernandes emphasized, “Making football truly global and accessible to all is the very aim of FIFA. I am confident that we are going to witness an extraordinary spectacle.”

The highly anticipated tournament is scheduled to take place from June 15 to July 13, 2025, with matches being hosted across 12 cities in the United States: Atlanta, Charlotte, Cincinnati, Los Angeles, Miami, Nashville, New Jersey, New York, Orlando, Philadelphia, Seattle, and Washington, D.C.

As the excitement builds towards the global event, African teams are also gearing up for their continental campaigns. In the latest action from the CAF Champions League group phase, defending champions Al Ahly triumphed over Ivorian newcomers Stade d’Abidjan with a commanding 4-1 victory in Cairo.

Esperance also impressed, securing a dominant 4-0 win over Mali’s Djoliba in Rades. Meanwhile, in Pretoria, Mamelodi Sundowns were held to a goalless draw by Gabonese side Maniema on Tuesday.

While Wydad Casablanca remains the only one of the four top African clubs not involved in continental action this week, they found solace in a 1-1 draw against archrivals Raja Club Athletic in the highly anticipated Casablanca derby.

As the stage is set for thrilling football on both the continental and global stages, anticipation continues to rise for what promises to be an unforgettable 2025 FIFA tournament.
