Finidi George regrets not playing for Real Madrid

Newly appointed Super Eagles head coach,  Finidi George has revealed that his biggest regret as a player was when a proposed transfer to mighty Real Madrid fell through.

The former Nigerian international was close to signing with Real Madrid, but the transfer ultimately did not materialize.

According to hin, had already agreed personal terms, spoke with coach Fabio Capello and even signed a pre-contract to join Real Madrid from Ajax.

Finidi went on to join Real Betis where he scored 38 goals in 130 appearances, but regretted not donning Los Blancos shirt in his prime.

“My only regret is not signing for Real Madrid. The Real Madrid you know now is different from 25 years ago,” Finidi said on Brila FM.

“They were struggling with money and couldn’t reach an agreement with Ajax. I had already agreed on personal terms with Madrid and spoken with Coach Capello.

“I had a pre-contract, but Real Madrid and Ajax couldn’t agree on the transfer fee.”
