Chiamaka Nnadozie Nominated for Barclays WSL Save of the Season Award

Nigeria goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie has been shortlisted for the Barclays Women’s Super League Save of the Season award after an impressive debut season with Brighton & Hove Albion Women.

Nnadozie earned the nomination for her remarkable save during Brighton’s 1-1 draw against Liverpool Women on Matchday 8 in November. The Nigerian shot-stopper produced a brilliant fingertip save to push Fuka Nagano’s powerful long-range strike onto the crossbar. The moment had earlier been recognised with the league’s Save of the Month award for November.

Since moving to England, Nnadozie has established herself as one of the standout goalkeepers in the league. She has recorded six clean sheets in the Women’s Super League — the second-highest total this season — and eight across all competitions.

The 24-year-old has also made a league-leading 62 saves this campaign and remains yet to concede a goal in the Women’s FA Cup, helping Brighton secure a place in the semi-finals where they will once again face Liverpool.

Other nominees for the award include Janina Leitzig of Leicester City Women, Daphne van Domselaar of Arsenal Women — who has two saves nominated — alongside Anneke Borbe, Ayaka Yamashita of Manchester City Women, and Elene Lete of London City Lionesses.

Voting for the Barclays Women’s Super League Save of the Season award is currently open on the league’s official website and will close on May 13 at 5pm.
