German Cup: Moffi scores but Hamburg beaten by Onyedika’s Frankfurt

Terem Moffi’s second goal for Hamburg was not enough to prevent a 3-1 home defeat by Eintracht Frankfurt in the second round of the German Cup on Tuesday.

Raphael Onyedika played the full 90 minutes for Frankfurt, who secured their place in the next round with three goals before Hamburg managed a late response.

Moffi reduced the deficit with 11 minutes remaining, but his effort proved to be only a consolation as Frankfurt held on for victory.

The goal was Moffi’s second in all competitions since he joined Hamburg in the summer transfer window. His first came in the league.

Hamburg’s defeat leaves them with consecutive losses after they were beaten 1-0 away by Paderborn in their league fixture on Saturday.

Frankfurt also entered the cup tie after suffering a -0 defeat by Borussia Dortmund in the Bundesliga at the weekend.

The result keeps Eintracht Frankfurt’s hopes of winning the German Cup alive. The club have lifted the competition five times, with their most recent triumph coming in 2018.
