Harry Kane: Barcelona move has taken Anthony Gordon to a new level

England captain Harry Kane believes Anthony Gordon’s move to Barcelona has given the winger the confidence to reach new heights for the Three Lions.
Gordon scored England’s opening goal in Tuesday’s 2-0 win over Czech Republic, taking his tally to three goals in his past three appearances for his country. His impact has extended beyond his finishing, with his pace and persistent runs behind the opposition defence making him England’s most consistent attacking threat in recent matches, according to the Daily Mail.
“Moving to Barcelona has helped him,” Kane said after the victory. “Sometimes going to a big club like that gives you more confidence and pride. You feel that you belong on the biggest stage, and he has brought that feeling into his performances for England.”
Barcelona paid £69 million to sign the 25-year-old Gordon from Newcastle before the World Cup. He has since impressed on England’s left wing, scoring against Argentina in the World Cup semi-final and against world champions Spain at Wembley on Saturday in the Nations League.
Gordon’s headed effort against Czech Republic moved him to four international goals in 25 appearances.
“He has made a difference,” Kane added. “He is always looking to play directly and be the one who gives us the advantage, and he finished the chance brilliantly as well. Those touches are not easy, but he executed them perfectly. He is an important player for us now.”
Kane praises Alexander-Arnold display
Trent Alexander-Arnold provided the assist for Gordon’s goal with an outstanding pass during his first start under England manager Thomas Tuchel.
Alexander-Arnold has not enjoyed the same boost since leaving Liverpool for Real Madrid in 2025, but his performance against Czech Republic underlined the creative quality he can offer from right-back.
His defensive ability was not tested extensively, however, as Czech Republic played with 10 men for more than an hour. Despite that, Kane was impressed by the Real Madrid player’s overall contribution.
“Trent is exceptional,” Kane said. “The passing, the shooting and the crossing, and defensively he was excellent too. You know he is a great player.
“Trent needs to keep his head down and continue working hard. He has been brilliant in the camp so far – the way he trains and pushes himself and the people around him.
“He is showing the manager that he wants to be here and wants to be part of this team, and he put in a great performance.”
