Lookman provides assist as Atletico Madrid hold Stuttgart while PSG defeat Barcelona

Ademola Lookman came off the bench to create Atletico Madrid’s equaliser in a 1-1 draw with VfB Stuttgart in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday night.

The Nigeria international began the match among the substitutes but was introduced in place of Jonathan David. Four minutes after half-time, Lookman supplied the pass for Julian Alvarez to level the contest.

Jamie Leweling had put VfB Stuttgart ahead nine minutes before the interval, leaving Atletico Madrid needing a response after the break. Lookman’s contribution arrived soon after the restart and ensured Diego Simeone’s side avoided defeat.

The result extends Lookman’s Champions League record for Atletico Madrid this season to one goal and one assist from three appearances. He had previously scored in the competition, and his latest involvement came in a match in which the two teams shared the points.

Atletico Madrid were also helped by the dismissal of Morten Hjulmand, who was sent off four minutes after the hour mark. The visitors were consequently reduced to 10 men for the closing stages.

The draw was one of two notable results in Tuesday’s Champions League action, with defending champions Paris Saint-Germain ending Barcelona’s unbeaten start to the season.

Paris Saint-Germain won 4-2 at the Parc des Princes in a match that remained closely contested for much of the evening. Desire Doue and Lucas Hernandez scored for the French side, while Xavi Espart and Lamine Yamal replied for Barcelona.

The exchanges left the teams level during the contest, but Paris Saint-Germain found the decisive goals later in the match. Vitinha and Fabian Ruiz both struck to secure victory for the holders.

The result gave Paris Saint-Germain all three points and handed Barcelona their first defeat of the campaign. It was a high-scoring encounter in which Barcelona twice found the net, but the French champions finished more strongly to claim the win.

Lookman’s assist in Stuttgart added to a productive Champions League campaign for the Atletico Madrid forward, while Paris Saint-Germain’s victory represented a significant result for the defending champions as they maintained their challenge in the competition.
