Lookman features as Atletico Madrid edge Deportivo La Coruna 1-0

Super Eagles winger Ademola Lookman made his 10th La Liga appearance of the season as Atletico Madrid narrowly defeated Deportivo La Coruna at the Riyadh Air Metropolitano on Saturday.

Lookman started for Diego Simeone’s side and produced an energetic display during a closely contested first half. He was replaced by Robin Le Normand before the second period began.

Neither team could find a breakthrough during the opening 45 minutes, with both defences limiting the clear chances available.

Atletico needed only three minutes after the restart to take the lead. A sweeping move that began on the right was transferred across the pitch to the left, where Alejandro Grimaldo delivered a precise pass into the path of Julian Alvarez.

The Atletico forward applied a composed finish in the 48th minute to put the hosts in front.

Deportivo responded positively and pressed for an equaliser as the match progressed. Their efforts created late pressure and tested Atletico goalkeeper Jan Oblak, but the home side’s defence remained organised.

Atletico held on to their narrow advantage and secured a clean sheet and all three points.
