Morocco Fasi close in on South African striker Tshegofatso John Mabasa
Morocco Fasi are close to completing their first foreign signing of the summer transfer window after South African striker Tshegofatso John Mabasa arrived in Morocco to finalise his move to the club.
The 29-year-old is expected to undergo a medical before signing his contract, with the deal set to be formally announced once the final details have been completed. His arrival follows lengthy discussions between Mabasa and the club’s officials.
Morocco Fasi are bringing in Mabasa to strengthen their attack ahead of the new season. He is expected to replace Moroccan forward Sufian Benjedida, who recently joined Egyptian club Al Ahly.
The Moroccan website Sport7 reported that Mabasa had travelled to Morocco to complete the remaining procedures related to his transfer. Club officials are now waiting to conclude the final stages of the agreement before confirming the signing.
If completed, the move will make Mabasa the first overseas player to join Morocco Fasi during the current summer transfer window. The signing forms part of the club’s wider plan to rebuild the squad after several foreign players departed.
Among those to leave are Mauritanian player Issa Mubarak and Botswana international Kabelo Seakanyeng. Morocco Fasi are therefore seeking to reshape their squad and add experience before the start of the forthcoming campaign.
Mabasa is regarded as one of the leading strikers in the South African league. He impressed for Stellenbosch during the previous season and also represented the club in the CAF Confederation Cup.
The forward has further continental and domestic experience from his time with Orlando Pirates. That background is viewed by Morocco Fasi as a potentially important asset as they prepare for the next season.
The club’s negotiations with Mabasa come as part of its efforts to rebuild the team following the departure of several key players, while also addressing the loss of Benjedida. The South African’s medical and contract signing are the remaining steps before Morocco Fasi can officially confirm the transfer.
