Moses Aduku secures contract extension with Edo Queens

By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde

Edo State Sports Commission has extended the contact of Edo Queens coach, Moses Aduku for an additional two years, securing his continued leadership of the team.

In addition to the contract renewal, Edo Queens also named Anthony Ipogah as Scouting Coach and Princess Omoyemwen Adeyinka Afolabi as Welfare Officer.

The latest development comes after Aduku’s impressive campaign with the Benin City-based side in 2024.

He joined the team from Bayelsa Queens in 2022 but had a slow start after the team couldn’t win any match at the 2023 Nigeria Women Football League NWFL Premiership Super Six in Asaba, Delta state capital.

He was given the mandate to lead the team for the 2023/2024 season, a paradigm shift from the previous dismissal of coaches at the end of the season.

The decision proved to be the best as Aduku guided the team to the league title last season and added the West Zone B (WAFU-B) Women’s Champions League title to the kitty.

That feat qualified the club for the 2024 CAF Women’s Champions League, where a fourth-placed finish earned a nomination in the CAF Women’s Club of the Year at the 2024 Awards.

The extension of Aduku’s contract is coming a few days before the 2024/2025 league campaign gets underway on January 15, 2025.

The Benin Arsenals will start their title defense against Abia Angels at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin City, next Wednesday.
