Mourinho reignites Barcelona rivalry with iconic celebration at Spotify Camp Nou

Jose Mourinho once again attracted attention in El Clasico after celebrating Kylian Mbappe’s late winner as Real Madrid beat Barcelona 2-1 at Spotify Camp Nou.

The Real Madrid manager dropped to his knees in front of the substitutes’ bench before punching the air with his tongue out, creating one of the match’s most memorable images.

The celebration came on Mourinho’s first visit to the stadium since returning to the rivalry with Barcelona. A video of the moment was shared by ¡El Capitano! on 25 October 2026.

Mourinho has a long and controversial history at Camp Nou. In April 2010, he celebrated Inter Milan’s qualification for the Champions League final at the stadium, during a match in which the sprinklers were turned on while he was celebrating.

The Portuguese manager has also been involved in several disputes with prominent figures connected to Barcelona. Those incidents included his accusations involving Frank Rijkaard and referee Anders Frisk, as well as the famous confrontation in which he put his finger in Tito Vilanova’s eye during the 2011 Spanish Super Cup.

His latest gesture came only days after he made controversial comments about the Negreira case. Mourinho compared the affair with the Calciopoli scandal and said it could become one of the biggest refereeing corruption scandals in the world.

The result itself was decided by Mbappe, who opened the scoring for Real Madrid in the 41st minute. Raphinha equalised for the Catalan side in the 61st minute, but the France striker struck again in the 87th minute to secure victory for the visitors.

The win moved Real Madrid to within three points of La Liga leaders Barcelona.
