Nico Paz stuns Manchester United with early wonder goal for Como

Nico Paz gave Como a dream start against Manchester United by scoring after only two minutes in their Champions League meeting at the Stadio Giuseppe Sinigaglia on Wednesday.
The Argentina international collected the ball on the edge of the penalty area with Harry Maguire in front of him. The Manchester United defender was unable to prevent Paz from creating room for a shot, and the 22-year-old curled a left-footed effort into the far corner.
The goal put Como ahead in the third round of the competition and underlined Paz’s growing reputation as one of Argentina’s most promising young players.
Paz has attracted attention since joining the Italian club, with his technical ability, chance creation and confidence shooting from outside the penalty area standing out. His performances have also increased speculation about the role he could play for Argentina in the future.
He is viewed as one of the leading candidates to inherit the number 10 shirt following Lionel Messi’s retirement from international football. Messi has worn the number throughout much of his Argentina career.
Paz, a former Real Madrid player, made an early impression in international football when he set up Messi during Argentina’s 6-0 victory over Bolivia in October 2024.
That match marked the beginning of his international career, and Messi subsequently praised Paz’s talent and his understanding of the game.
The strike against Manchester United was another significant moment for the midfielder, who has become one of the key attacking players for Como. His ability to receive possession under pressure and find the far corner with his left foot was on display as he opened the scoring in spectacular fashion.
Como’s fast start left Manchester United facing an early setback at the Stadio Giuseppe Sinigaglia, while Paz continued to build his case as a player expected to have an important future for both club and country.
