As Victor Osimhen’s future remains shrouded in uncertainty, former Nigeria forward Brown Ideye has urged the striker to prioritize securing a lucrative contract while he’s still actively playing.

Ideye, who won the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in 2013, advised Osimhen to consider his financial security and life after football. With Osimhen’s hefty €130 million release clause deterring many potential suitors, and his public declaration of wanting to leave Napoli, the 25-year-old’s next move is a topic of considerable speculation.

In light of this, Ideye emphasized the importance of financial prudence. On X, he stated, “No one will pay you a pension after football. Your pension is what you save while playing.”

He continued, “While every player dreams of joining a big European club and winning trophies, the ultimate goal should be to ensure financial stability after football. The only way to achieve that is by securing a substantial income during your playing career.”

Ideye further warned, “Don’t be swayed by what you see on social media. Not every Nigerian footballer abroad enjoys a comfortable salary after taxes. That’s the reality!”
