Raphinha moves ahead of Neymar and Rivaldo in Barcelona’s Champions League records

Raphinha scored twice as Barcelona beat Aston Villa 3-0 in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday, setting a new landmark for Brazilian players at the club in the competition.

The Brazil forward opened the scoring in the 52nd minute with a strike from the edge of the penalty area before doubling Barcelona’s lead 12 minutes later. He followed up a cross from Joao Cancelo to complete his second goal of the night.

The victory came in the fourth round of the Champions League league phase and took Raphinha’s total for the season to 19 goals and three assists in 13 appearances across all competitions.

According to statistics published by Mister Chip, Raphinha now has 23 Champions League goals for Barcelona. That puts him top of the club’s Brazilian scoring list in the competition, ahead of Rivaldo on 22 and Neymar on 21.

Raphinha has also moved into the top 10 Brazilian scorers in Champions League history. He is level with former Liverpool forward Roberto Firmino, while Neymar leads the overall list with 43 goals scored for Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain.

His two goals against Aston Villa also saw him draw level with Robert Lewandowski as Barcelona’s third-highest scorer in the Champions League.

Raphinha now needs two more goals to equal Luis Suarez, who occupies second place on the club’s list. Lionel Messi remains Barcelona’s leading scorer in the competition with 120 goals.
