Super Falcons’ WAFCON group opponent Tunisia stumbles in friendly match

By: Dayo Awoniyi

The Nigeria’s senior women national team’s Group B opponent at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), Tunisia, faced a 3-1 defeat in a friendly against Morocco, raising hopes for Nigeria’s chances in the tournament.

Tunisia, who will compete against the Super Falcons, Algeria, and Botswana in Group B, struggled to contain Morocco’s Atlas Lionesses in the North African derby played in Rabat.

Morocco took an early lead through Yasmin Mrabet, and although Tunisia briefly equalized, the Atlas Lionesses regained control, scoring two more goals to seal the victory.

While the loss is concerning for Tunisia, it could serve as a positive sign for the Super Falcons as they look to strengthen their position in Group B.

With the North African side showing vulnerabilities, Nigeria’s confidence for the upcoming competition may have received a boost.
