Nigeria U-20 women’s national team are through to the semi-final of the women’s football event of the 2023 African Games following a comprehensive victory over Senegal in Cape Coast on Monday night.

Christopher Danjuma’s side thrashed their counterparts from Senegal 4-0 to finish top of Group B.

It took the first 13 minutes for the Falconets to break the deadlock via Loveth Njideka Edeh at the Cape Coast Stadium.

After missing some chances, the Nigerian side doubled their lead five minutes into the second half when Motunrayo Ezekiel made it 2-0 in the 50th minute.

11 minutes later, an own goal from Aicha Kaldes increased the lead to three before Chioma Olise compounded the woes of Senegal with the fourth goal.

With this resounding victory, Nigeria clinched the top spot in Group B, regardless of the outcome of the final group game between Senegal and Morocco.

The Falconets secured a maximum of six points in the group stage as they now look ahead to the semifinals with confidence.

They will face Group A runners-up in the semi-final as they aim to defend the gold medal they won in 2019 in Rabat, Morocco.
